I'M HERE WITH A SIMPLE NO COST PROPOSAL, ACCEPTING A DONATION OF PORTABLE HEPA AIR SCRUBBERS FOR NEWTON COLLINS CLASSROOMS FROM JASPER, A CLEAN AIR COMPANY BASED HERE IN AUSTIN.
THE GOAL IS TO IMPROVE CLASSROOM AIR QUALITY, SUPPORT STUDENT HEALTH, AND, IMPORTANTLY FOR TEXAS DISTRICTS, PROTECT ATTENDANCE-BASED FUNDING.
HEALTHIER KIDS EQUALS LESS ABSENTEEISM.
DURING OUR SUMMER BREAK, WE WERE LISTENING TO SOME PODCASTS ON OUR ROAD TRIPS, AND WE WERE INTRODUCED TO THIS COMPANY, JASPER.
THE OWNER USED TO WORK FOR REMEDIATION COMPANIES UP IN CANADA WITH WILDFIRE DISASTERS AND FLOODING.
THROUGH ALL OF HIS DATA AND COLLECTING AND ALL THE WORK THAT THEY DID, THEY NOTICED THAT AFTER FIRE, THEY WOULD BRING IN THE BIG INDUSTRIAL AIR SCRUBBERS, AND IT WOULD TAKE OUT ALL THE MOLD OUT ALL THE CHEMICALS, AND POLLUTIONS FROM ALL THE DAMAGE THAT WAS DONE.
THEY WOULD BE HEALTHY AND FINE FOR A WHILE, AND THEN ALL SUDDEN, EVERYONE WOULD START GETTING SICK AGAIN.
WHAT THEY REALIZED WAS THAT THE POLLUTION, MOLD, ALL THE DUST AND PARTICLES WOULD START COMING BACK IN.
THEY REALIZED THAT YOU CAN'T HAVE A BIG INDUSTRIAL AIR SCRUBBER IN SOMEONE'S HOUSE ALL THE TIME BECAUSE IT IS VERY LOUD, VERY LARGE, AND VERY EXPENSIVE.
HE CREATED THIS NEW COMPANY CALLED JASPER WITH THE GOAL OF CREATING ONE THAT YOU CAN HAVE IN YOUR HOUSE. THERE ARE SMALLER UNITS.
WE HAVE ONE IN OUR BEDROOM NOW, YOU CAN PUT IT IN A CLASSROOM WITHOUT ANY DISTRACTION OR ANY PROBLEMS. MY WIFE AND I DECIDED TO ORDER A FEW TO TEST THEM OUT, AND I GOT A CALL FROM THE COMPANY, AND THEY'RE LIKE, HEY, WE'RE A LOCAL AUSTIN COMPANY.
YOU GUYS ARE HERE IN AUSTIN CAN COME AND DELIVER THEM TO YOUR HOUSE.
I THOUGHT I WAS GETTING SCAMMED.
I WAS LIKE, WHAT ARE YOU GUYS DOING? THIS IS A JOKE. BUT THEY CAME TO OUR HOUSE.

THE RECOGNITION HIGHLIGHTS THE TALENTS OF OUR STUDENTS, THE COMMITMENT OF THEIR TEACHERS, AND THE DISTRICT'S SUPPORT FOR THE ARTS.

BETTY ELEMENTARY ALSO RECEIVED THE POSITIVE PULSE TROPHY FOR UNWAVERING EDUCATION THAT HAS GENERATED A MEASURABLE POSITIVE IMPACT WITHIN ITS COMMUNITY.
THIS AWARD HONORS THOSE WHO GO ABOVE AND BEYOND TO FOSTER VIBRANT, HEALTHY LEARNING ENVIRONMENTS BOTH INSIDE AND OUTSIDE THE CLASSROOM.

THIS IS THE 11TH WEEK OF SCHOOL, AND NEXT WEEK IS THE END OF OUR SECOND GRADING PERIOD, AND SO I WANT TO TAKE THE TIME TO COMMEND OUR STUDENTS AND OUR STAFF AND OF COURSE, OUR PARENTS FOR ALL OF THEIR SUPPORT BECAUSE IT HAS TRULY BEEN A SMOOTH 11 WEEKS OF SCHOOL.

SHE DEDICATED HER LIFE TO EDUCATION, JUSTICE, AND CIVIC LEADERSHIP.
HER NAME WOULD HONOR BOTH THE AFRICAN AMERICAN LEGACY OF TEXAS AND THE IMPORTANCE OF DIVERSITY REPRESENTATION, BREAKING BARRIERS, VALUES THAT MIRROR THE ASPIRATIONS OF THE DEL VALLE STUDENT BODY.
OUR SECOND RECOMMENDATION IS EVA MIRELES.
MISS MIRELES MADE THE ULTIMATE SACRIFICE FOR HER STUDENTS AT ROSS ELEMENTARY IN VALLE ISD.
HER SISTER, SANDRA SANDERS, CONTINUES TO TEACH AND ADVOCATE FOR SCHOOL SAFETY IN HER MEMORY AT GILBERT ELEMENTARY.
I BELIEVE THE CONNECTIONS BETWEEN DEL VALLE ARE STRONG, AND NAMING OUR NEW HIGH SCHOOL AFTER THIS EDUCATOR WOULD HONOR HER SACRIFICE, OUR CONNECTIONS AND MISS SANDERS' DEDICATION AND COMMITMENT TO OUR COMMUNITY, ESPECIALLY OUR LEARNERS.
THE THIRD RECOMMENDATION IS ANDREW ZUNIGA.
THE NOMINATION, ONE OF THEM RED.
I WOULD LIKE TO RECOMMEND THAT DEL VALLE NUMBER 2 SCHOOL BE NAMED IN HONOR OF ANDREW ZUNIGA.
MR. ZUNIGA DEDICATED OVER 15 YEARS TO OUR DISTRICT, AND IN THAT TIME, HE MADE AN INCREDIBLE IMPACT ON STUDENTS, STAFF, IN THE COMMUNITY.
HE WAS NAMED TEACHER OF THE YEAR IN 2019, DESIGNED THE DEL VALLE CARDINAL LOGO THAT WE STILL PRO USE TODAY, AND CARED DEEPLY ABOUT THE WELL BEING AND EDUCATION OF EVERY STUDENT HE TAUGHT.
HIS CONTRIBUTIONS WENT FAR BEYOND THE CLASSROOM.
HE OPERATED THE JUMBO TRAUMA HOME FOOTBALL AND SOCCER GAMES, HELPING CREATE THE EXCITEMENT AND SPIRIT WE ALL ASSOCIATE WITH DEL VALLE ATHLETICS.
EVERY YEAR, HE TOOK THE SENIOR CLASS PANORAMIC PHOTO, A TRADITION THAT MEANS SO MUCH TO OUR GRADUATES AND THEIR FAMILIES.
THESE EFFORTS, COMBINED WITH HIS TEACHING, SHOWED JUST HOW MUCH PRIDE HE HAD IN OUR SCHOOLS AND IN OUR COMMUNITY.
NAMING THE NEW SCHOOL AFTER ANDREW ZUNIGA WOULD BE A MEANINGFUL WAY TO HONOR HIS LEGACY OF SERVICE, COMPASSION, AND DEDICATION HE GAVE TO DEL VALLE.
OUR FOURTH NOMINATION IS NORTH DEL VALLE, AND ONE OF THE NOMINATIONS READ GEOGRAPHICALLY, THE NEW CAMPUS WILL LIKELY BE THE ONLY NORTHERNMOST HIGH SCHOOL THE DISTRICT WILL HAVE SINCE IT WILL PRESUMABLY SERVE MORE THAN JUST THE LOCAL WHISPER VALLEY NEIGHBORHOOD.
A NAME LIKE WHISPER VALLEY HIGH, WHILE FITTING FOR THE IMMEDIATE LOCATION, BECOMES LESS INCLUSIVE OF THE BROADER COMMUNITY.
AS A REMINDER, THIS EVENING'S ITEM IS FOR INFORMATION ONLY.

AN OVERVIEW. WHAT IS COLLEGE CAREER OR MILITARY READINESS? WE KNOW THAT TEA SAYS THAT THIS IS SHARING HOW STUDENTS LEAVE OUR HIGH SCHOOL, WHETHER THEY'RE COLLEGE CAREER OR MILITARY READY, AND THEY CAN DEMONSTRATE THIS IN A VARIETY OF WAYS.
ONE OF THE WAYS THAT THEY CAN DO THAT IS BY TAKING THAT TEXAS SUCCESS INITIATIVE, BENCHMARK OR TEST.
THEY CAN EARN DUAL CREDIT WHILE THEY'RE IN HIGH SCHOOL, TAKE ADVANCED PLACEMENT COURSES AND PASS THAT TEST.
WE DON'T OFFER IB EXAMS, BUT THEY CAN DO THAT AS WELL.
BUT WE DO OFFER ON RAMP COURSES, WHICH GIVES THEM CREDIT FOR UT.
WE OFFER INDUSTRY BASED CERTIFICATIONS, AND OF COURSE, AN ASSOCIATE'S DEGREE, OR THEY CAN ENLIST IN THE MILITARY.
THIS MATTERS BECAUSE THIS IS ONE OF OUR MEASURES.
IN FACT, IT IS A BIG MEASURE FOR THE DISTRICT.
IT IS PART OF OUR A THROUGH F ACCOUNTABILITY SYSTEM, AND YOU'LL SEE THIS IN BOTH DOMAINS ONE AND DOMAIN TWO.

ALTHOUGH WE KNOW THAT WE WANT TO HIT THAT 90% OR BETTER BY AUGUST OF 2030.
OUR FIRST GPM REALLY FOCUSES ON TSI READINESS.
TEXAS SUCCESS INITIATIVE IS THE CRITERIA THAT TEA SAYS IS OUR STUDENT COLLEGE READY? IN OTHER WORDS, CAN THEY WALK ON TO A COLLEGE CAMPUS OR A TWO YEAR COLLEGE CAMPUS, ACC, A FOUR YEAR UNIVERSITY WITHOUT TAKING REMEDIAL MATH AND/OR READING COURSES.
YOU'LL SEE HOW THE DATA HAS BEEN TRENDING UP, WHICH IS WHAT WE WANT TO SEE.
THEN YOU'LL SEE THAT AT THE END OF THIS SCHOOL YEAR, WE'RE SAYING THAT WE WILL PROBABLY STAY AT ABOUT 22%, KNOWING THAT WE WILL INCREASE A COUPLE OF PERCENTAGE POINTS IN THE NEXT COUPLE OF YEARS.
AS ALSO DISCUSSED IN THE WORKSHOP, THE REASON THAT WE'RE GOING TO REMAIN AT ABOUT 22% OF OUR STUDENTS BEING COLLEGE READY IS FOR A FEW REASONS.
REMEMBER THAT THIS IS BASED ON GRADUATES FROM A LAGGING INDICATOR.
IN THE 25-26 SCHOOL YEAR, FOR ACCOUNTABILITY PURPOSES, THAT IS THE GRADUATING CLASS THAT GRADUATED IN MAY.
WE CANNOT CHANGE THE OUTCOME OF THOSE STUDENTS WHO GRADUATED IN MAY, AND WE KNOW THAT WE HIT THAT 22%.
WELL, WE CAN HAVE SOME IMPACT WITH OUR JUNIOR AND SENIOR CLASS IS IN THAT CLASS OF 26-27 AND 27-28, SPECIFICALLY AROUND 27-28.
ARE TSI READY? ARE TSI A TEST? THAT TEST, OUR STUDENTS NEED TO BE ABLE TO PASS THE TEST HAVING HAVE TAKEN ALGEBRA 1, GEOMETRY AND ALGEBRA 2.
WE CHALLENGE SOME OF OUR EIGHTH GRADERS WHO ARE ADVANCED TO TAKE THAT TEST, AND A FEW PASS IT.
WE THEN CHALLENGE OUR FRESHMEN WHO ARE DOING WELL, THEIR FRESHMAN YEAR TO TAKE THAT TEST, AND SOME OF THEM PASS IT.
BUT REALLY, THE EXPECTATION IS AFTER YOU TAKE YOUR ALGEBRA 2 COURSE, WHICH IN A TRADITIONAL HIGH SCHOOL PATH, IT IS YOUR JUNIOR YEAR, SHOULD YOU BE ABLE TO TAKE THE TEST AND PASS THE TEST.
WE KNOW THAT WE HAVE SOME WORK TO DO.
HOW CAN WE ENSURE THAT WE'RE NOT WAITING UNTIL THE JUNIOR YEAR AND SENIOR YEAR, BUT WE'RE DOING THIS IN THE MIDDLE SCHOOLS? TOWARDS THE END OF THE PRESENTATION, I'LL TALK ABOUT OUR NEXT STEPS.

ALSO I WANT TO TAKE SOME MOMENT TO TALK ABOUT WHY WE SEE THAT TRAJECTORY, AND YOU MAY BE WONDERING, IS THAT AGGRESSIVE? IN ORDER TO GRADUATE WITH YOUR ASSOCIATES DEGREE, YOU NEED THE 60 COLLEGE HOURS FROM AC THAT IS OUR PARTNERING COLLEGE.
IN ORDER TO TAKE THOSE COURSES, YOU NEED TO PASS THE TSI TEST THAT I JUST TALKED ABOUT.
IDEALLY, WE WOULD LIKE STUDENTS TO START TAKING THEIR FIRST COLLEGE COURSE, THEIR SPRING SEMESTER OF THEIR FRESHMAN YEAR.
WHICH MEANS THAT THEY WERE PROBABLY ADVANCED IN MIDDLE SCHOOL AND THEY'RE ADVANCED ENOUGH TO READY TO BEGIN TO TAKE THEIR COURSEWORK, THEIR FRESHMAN YEAR.
IF THEY DON'T TAKE THAT FIRST CLASS, THEIR FRESHMAN YEAR, IT JUST ADDS ANOTHER CLASS, THEIR SOPHOMORE YEAR.
WE FIND IT THOUGH VERY DIFFICULT FOR OUR STUDENTS TO STAY ON TRACK AND ACTUALLY COMPLETE THE 60 HOURS IF THEY DON'T START THEIR SOPHOMORE YEAR.
WHEN YOU LOOK AT THE 26, 27 AND 27, 28 SCHOOL YEAR, THOSE ARE OUR STUDENTS THAT ARE ALREADY IN HIGH SCHOOL.
IF THEY'RE ALREADY NOT ON TRACK TO GRADUATE WITH THEIR ASSOCIATES, IT'S GOING TO BE REALLY HARD TO CATCH THEM UP.
WE WANT TO SUPPORT THOSE THAT ARE CURRENTLY IN THE COHORT, AND WE WANT TO ENSURE THAT THEY GET AS MANY COLLEGE HOURS AS THEY POSSIBLY CAN, KNOWING THAT THEY MAY NOT HIT THE 60, BUT WE WILL TAKE THE 48, WE WILL TAKE THE 52, WE WILL TAKE THE 56.

WHERE OUR BIG FOCUS IS GOING TO BE AGAIN IN THE MIDDLE SCHOOL, AND I'LL TALK ABOUT THAT HERE SHORTLY.THEN OUR THIRD GOAL PROGRESS MEASURE THAT'S LEADING UP TO OUR 90% BY 2030 IS AROUND OUR INDUSTRY BASED CERTIFICATION.
YOU'LL SEE THE DATA AROSE IN 23, 24 TO ABOUT 22% OF OUR STUDENTS BEING COLLEGE READY BECAUSE THEY TOOK THAT INDUSTRY BASED CERTIFICATION.
THAT'S THAT CERTIFICATION TEST THAT SAYS, IF YOU WALK INTO INTO THE WORKFORCE AND YOUR EMPLOYER RECOGNIZES THE CERTIFICATION, YOU'LL BE EARNING AS MUCH AS SOME OF THE OTHER EMPLOYEES THAT MAYBE DIDN'T HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY IN HIGH SCHOOL, BUT WE HAVE OUR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS BEING ABLE TO ENTER THE WORKFORCE.
I'LL TALK ABOUT WHY THAT HAPPENED AND THEN WE'LL GET BACK TO ABOUT 22% IN THE NEXT FEW YEARS.
THAT DIP HAPPENED WHEN TEA CHANGED THE ACCOUNTABILITY SYSTEM.
IN THE PAST, A STUDENT IN ORDER TO EARN A CCMR CREDIT OR POINT, ALL THEY HAD TO DO WAS TAKE A TEST.
THEY DIDN'T HAVE TO TAKE THE COHERENT SEQUENCE OF COURSES THAT LEAD UP TO THE TEST.
FOR EXAMPLE, OUR STUDENTS COULD HAVE TAKEN A MICROSOFT OFFICE TEST, AND THEY COULD HAVE TAKEN MAYBE ONE OF OUR BUSINESS ENTREPRENEURSHIP COURSES, AND THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN JUST FINE IN THE EYES OF TEA.
TEA CAUGHT ONTO WHAT SOME SCHOOL DISTRICTS WERE DOING.
THEY WERE ASKING STUDENTS TO TAKE THE EASIEST COURSES, AND THEY CHANGED THE GAME ON US, AND THAT IS OKAY BECAUSE IT'S TO THE BENEFIT OF OUR STUDENTS.
NOW WHAT TEA REQUIRES IS THAT THEY TAKE A COHERENT SEQUENCE OF COURSES.
IN ORDER FOR US TO EARN OUR CCMR CREDIT, OUR STUDENTS NEED TO TAKE A ONE ON ONE CLASS, LIKE AN ENTRY CLASS, THEIR SECOND CLASS, PROBABLY THEIR SOPHOMORE YEAR, AND IN THE THIRD CLASS, THEIR JUNIOR OR SENIOR YEAR.
WE WANT THEM TO ENGAGE IN A PRACTICUM AND WE WANT THEM TO TAKE THAT IBC.
ONCE A STUDENT COMPLETES THOSE ITEMS, THEN THEY ARE CONSIDERED CAREER READY, AND SO THEY GET THAT CCMR POINT.
THAT IS WHY WE SEE THIS TRENDING UP, BUT WE CAN BE A LITTLE BIT MORE AGGRESSIVE IN THE YEARS TO COME AS WE ENSURE THAT WE HAVE CONVERSATIONS WITH OUR STUDENTS AND OUR PARENTS TO SAY EXPLORE IN MIDDLE SCHOOL BECAUSE THERE ARE SOME COURSES THAT COUNT FOR CTE CREDIT.
YOUR FRESHMAN YEAR, YOU'RE GOING TO HAVE TO PICK A PATH.
IF YOU CHANGE YOUR FRESHMAN YEAR, YOU HAVE ONE MORE OPPORTUNITY, BUT THEN YOU'VE GOT TO STAY ON THAT PATH, YOUR SOPHOMORE JUNIOR AND SENIOR YEAR, IN ORDER TO TAKE THOSE THREE COURSES IN A ROW AND THEN TAKE YOUR CCMR OR YOUR IBC TEST, I SHOULD SAY.
THAT IS WHERE WE'RE CURRENTLY AT.

SO EACH SERVICE CENTER, AS IS BROKEN OUT BY REGION, THE STATE OF TEXAS SAYS, EACH SERVICE CENTER, WHAT IS THE WORKFORCE DEMAND FOR YOUR REGION? IN REGION 13, IT MAKES SENSE THAT IT IS TIED TO OUR SURROUNDING WORKFORCE.
SO A LOT OF TECH, A LOT OF HEALTHCARE.
WE ALSO WANT TO ENSURE THAT WE GROW OUR DUAL CREDIT AND RAMS. WE KNOW THAT NOT EVERY STUDENT WILL TAKE 60 HOURS OF COLLEGE CREDIT, BUT WE WANT TO ENCOURAGE EVERY STUDENT TO TAKE COLLEGE CREDIT.
WHILE WE WON'T GET A FULL POINT FOR THAT, WE DO WANT TO ENCOURAGE THAT FOR FAMILIES.
WE HAVE MORE RAMS COURSES BEING OFFERED THIS YEAR THAN WE HAVE IN THE PAST, AND DUAL CREDIT IS OUR NEXT PUSH.
WE HAVE GREATER COLLABORATION WITH OUR SECONDARY CAMPUSES AND OUR TEACHING AND LEARNING TEAM.

THAT IS A BIG ISSUE ON OUR CURRICULUM, WHICH IS WHY WE CHANGED OUR CURRICULUM ACROSS THE DISTRICT IN MATH AND WE'RE CONTINUING TO PUSH A HIGH QUALITY INSTRUCTURAL MATERIAL IN READING WITH THE CURRENT CURRICULUM THAT WE CURRENTLY HAVE.
WE WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT MORE STUDENTS HAVE MORE ACCESS TO ADVANCED COURSEWORK.
SO AP AND DUAL CREDIT IS OUR BIG PUSH AND THAT STUDENT AND THEIR FAMILY WILL DECIDE WHICH COURSES THEY TAKE AND WHY THEY TAKE AN AP OVER A DUAL CREDIT.
WE WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT WHILE WE ARE TAKING CARE OF IBCS, THAT JUST BECAUSE YOU ALREADY COMPLETED AN IBC PATHWAY OR YOU'RE TAKING A CT PATH, THAT WE DON'T FORGET THAT YOU CAN ALSO TAKE THE COURSEWORK THAT IS TIED TO OUR P TECH PROGRAMS, THAT WE ALSO HAVE AT OUR EARLY COLLEGE HIGH SCHOOL IN CYBERSECURITY AND IN ADVANCED MANUFACTURING.
OF COURSE, OUR COMPREHENSIVE COMMUNICATION WITH FAMILIES.
UNFORTUNATELY, IT IS A REALITY FOR MANY OF US WHEN WE HAVE CONVERSATIONS WITH OUR FAMILIES, OUR FAMILIES STILL DON'T KNOW EVERYTHING THAT WE HAVE TO OFFER, AND WE WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT IT IS VERY CLEAR THAT WE WANT TO OFFER THE VERY BEST FOR THEIR STUDENTS.
OUR STRATEGIES FOR IMPROVEMENT.
I SAID THAT I HAD MENTIONED THE MIDDLE SCHOOLS HERE.
YOU ALL KNOW THAT WE'RE MOVING FROM DNF RATED CAMPUSES, AND UNFORTUNATELY, THAT'S WHAT WE SEE ARE SOME OF THE PRODUCTS THAT WE SEE.
AGAIN, NONE OF THIS IS A FAULT OF OUR STUDENTS, IS JUST THE CURRICULUM THAT WE'VE BEEN USING.
WE'RE FOCUSING WITH OUR MIDDLE SCHOOLS SO THAT WHEN WE LOOK AT THE CURRICULUM, WE CAN SAY, IF YOU ENTER ADVANCED IN THE MIDDLE SCHOOL, YOU NEED TO STAY ADVANCED AT THE HIGH SCHOOL AND WORK YOUR WAY THROUGH IF YOU CHOOSE AN ASSOCIATE'S DEGREE.
THOSE ARE THE STUDENTS THAT WE KNOW.
IF YOU WEREN'T ADVANCED IN MIDDLE SCHOOL, THAT'S OKAY.
THERE'S STILL A PATH FOR YOU, AND YOU CAN STILL GET TO THAT ASSOCIATES DEGREE.
THIS IS GOING TO TAKE A LITTLE BIT MORE WORK.
WE NEED TO REFOCUS OUR P TECH PROGRAMS AT OUR ECHS.
AS I SAID, WE HAVE THE ADVANCED MANUFACTURING AND THE CYBERSECURITY PROGRAMS. WE'RE WORKING REALLY CLOSELY WITH OUR CTE DIRECTOR AND ACC TO ENSURE THAT THOSE CLASSES ARE FULL BECAUSE RIGHT NOW WE STILL HAVE SOME SPACE FOR THEM AND ENSURE THAT WE CAN RETAIN THE VERY BEST STAFF.
THE BIGGEST ISSUE HAS BEEN BEING ABLE TO HIRE A HIGHLY QUALIFIED STAFF AND KEEP THAT STAFF MEMBER BECAUSE THEY COULD BE WORKING IN THE INDUSTRY MAKING SIX FIGURES.

RECEIVED, WE DID RECEIVE TRAVIS COUNTY SITE PERMIT ON AUGUST 22 TO ALLOW WORK TO COMMENCE IN THE FLOODPLAIN, AND WE ARE COORDINATING WITH AUSTIN ENERGY TO FINALIZE DESIGN FOR PERMANENT POWER TO THE SITE.
